In 1946 Adams was asked to set up a photography department at the California School of Fine Arts. He was conferred with many honorary degrees and citations and continued teaching well into his 70s, giving of himself so that others could express themselves as fully as possible. "Perhaps my negative experiences in school encouraged my own urge to teach, but to teach in a completely different way."14 In 1940, Ansel was asked to teach forums in Yosemite. "The Forum* definitely is not a school....It offers the opportunity for the exchange of ideas and for the observation of methods and procedures....The attitude and viewpoint of the individual is always stressed."15 These workshops continued through 1981.
